Senior Mechanical Engineer
EllisJordan Consulting is conducting a search for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for an MEP engineering firm that develops building mechanical systems. The client’s projects include work in schools and colleges, wineries, food production, industrial, aerospace, healthcare, life sciences, transit facilities, industrial, multifamily, commercial buildings, and a large number of net-zero and ILFI and Passive House projects.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The successful candidate will have at least seven (7) years of experience in a wide variety of projects from HVAC and plumbing design to energy audits, energy models, and commissioning. This individual will be part of a team and manage a variety of projects, as well as interface with clients to present information in a concise and compelling manner. The role demands strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects while ensuring technical excellence and compliance with client and regulatory requirements. This position requires adaptability, leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for efficiency and innovation. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will have the ability to grow their role and advance their career within the firm.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Visit client sites, utilize site tools for measurement, and gather energy audit information
Provide a high level of design, quality work, and service to clients
Manage task list, workload, and deadlines to achieve desired project outcomes and milestones
Provide clients with clear, concise, and regular communication regarding projects, status, and deliverables. Deliver presentations and other information as needed
Travel to corporate office and for out-of-town projects periodically throughout the year
Understand project scope of work to develop MEP cost estimations
Manage work and projects within allotted hours. Ensure team members under your supervision remain within allotted hours for their tasks
Effectively coordinate work with others in the office, subconsultants, clients, and the owner
Create and develop positive relationships with other consultants. Foster relationships into strong supporters and promoters
Achieve target utilization rates (proper ratio of billable to non-billable work). Actively seek billable work, non-billable tasks, and process or systems improvements
Maintain efficiency by looking ahead, seeing big picture, and proactively planning work
Effectively estimate and convey resources needed for assigned tasks, including estimated time, drafting and support time, and reviewer’s time to team leader. Continue to refine estimation skills
Create, develop, and maintain courteous, helpful, and responsive interactions with clients and stakeholders inside client organizations. Work with the team to exceed client expectations
Follow company standards and protocols. Gracefully request and incorporate peer review of projects, and meet the requests of accounting, administrative, and marketing staff
Develop a client list and check-in with clients on a regular basis. Recognize opportunities for potential new clients
Display curiosity and seek out ways to continuously learn, develop, and grow professionally
Maintain a positive attitude and help others to maintain theirs
Recognize and clean up breakdown as needed
Acknowledge others for their contributions, support and provide feedback to team members
Assist with additional tasks and responsibilities as needed or assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Minimum of seven (7) years of mechanical, plumbing, or related experience (equivalent combination of education and experience)
Deep understanding of AEC industry
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Bluebeam
Experience with a variety of engineering work, which may include building construction, energy modeling, audits, commissioning and Net-Zero projects
LEED certification or ability to obtain LEED certification upon hire. Building commissioning experience is preferred
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to foster positive work relationships with co-workers, clients, and industry partners
Excellent prioritization and time management skills. Ability to effectively handle production support needs in a timely manner and achieve project goals/deliverables
Ability to work a 44 hours per week schedule. Flexibility to work in a hybrid environment of remote and in-office two or three days per week
Sound judgement and decision-making skills. Ability to analyze situations and develop solutions
Self-starter. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
Professional demeanor and presentation. Ability to develop and deliver presentations to clients
Intellectual curiosity and thirst for knowledge
Desire to learn marketing and assist with growing the office
Support of organizational core values and commitment to making a difference
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited course of study in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Additional education is a plus
PE licensure is a plus
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Experience with CAD, and/or Revit is a plus
Trane TRACE, IES Virtual Environment energy modeling experience is preferred
